Microsoft Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 3.0 Service Pack 3 is an add-on for the .NET Framework that helps developers build secure, interoperable SOAP-based web services using industry standards. It delivers policy-driven configuration, message-level security (signing and encryption), and turnkey authentication options including X.509 certificates, Kerberos, and username/password. WSE 3.0 supports key WS-* protocols such as WS-Security and WS-Addressing, as well as MTOM for efficient attachment handling, and it integrates with Visual Studio 2005 through configuration tools and templates. SP3 is a cumulative update that improves reliability and performance while maintaining compatibility with existing WSE 3.0 applications. While well suited for maintaining ASMX-based services and clients, Microsoft recommends Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) for new development.
